Home Projects & Materials

Good estimates prevent two expensive problems: running out halfway through and overbuying “just in case.” These tools use standard assumptions and let you adjust for waste and coverage.

Quick reference assumptions
  • Standard door ≈ 20 sq ft, standard window ≈ 15 sq ft for deductions.
  • Paint coverage is listed on the can; porous surfaces, roller nap, and color changes reduce it.
  • Roofing and flooring waste is usually 10–15% depending on pattern and cuts.
  • Deck joist counts assume end joists plus spacing; attached decks often need fewer posts.
  • Concrete volume does not include rebar, wire, or forms—order a bit extra for the truck.
